We were exploring what
was then called, Yugoslavia—
and not, Herzigovina,
when we visited a bakery
to buy some delicious bread.
My brand-new wife pointed at
a bread, exclaiming I’ll have that
French bread. The clerk was insulted,
shouting : “it’s not French, it’s our bread,
and it’s called, Pogacha.!”
Are we being the ugly Americans?
As we left the shop, I held the door
as another customer was entering.
As we walked away, that customer
beamed with gratitude, shouting:
“Thank you so much—you made my day!”
I invite you for a Champagne brunch
AT my Hotel Metropolis just around the corner.
Civility pays!
