No more desultory days once I live to 90.
Every day will be a surprise: I’m still here!
Whoopie! I’ll make the most of each day,
and treat it like a gift from the Kingdom of Gods.
I will roll up my sleeves, lick my lips, and plunge
into having the time of my life as I mediate with
my wife at dawn and dusk to nip despair in the bud,
and dance like Fred and Ginger to the best swing
music I recorded from Milt Edwards Orchestra.
I will adore my wife as much as when we met
67 years ago—write more memorable poems—
enjoy my kids and grandkids and will remember
to call my friends who are still around—even if
a few may not remember my name anymore.
